How Do I Submit Samples?

Once completed, soil samples should be mailed to the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services' Soil Testing Lab in Raleigh. The lab's address is printed on the soil sample box and submission form. You can also download a submission form for home lawn and garden samples or pick one up at your local extension office. More details here.

What Does It Cost?

  • Free Testing: Samples submitted between April 1, 2025, and November 24, 2025, are analyzed at no charge.

  • Peak Season Fee: A $4 per sample fee applies for submissions made between November 27, 2024, and March 31, 2025.

North Carolina is one of the few states offering soil testing at no direct cost to residents for most of the year, thanks to funding from a statewide commercial fertilizer tax.
